Human resources have got importance during late 80's in India. Earlier it was mainly known as a part of administration work and related to industrial relations. But with globalization, HR has also grown from personnel administration to strategic HR. However, strategic role of HR is not very wide spread in the all the sectors/organization. Large scale industries or MNCs have started realizing the importance of managing HR strategically and have started taking initiatives accordingly.

Study by GSHR students also reveal that though students of today at chennai is aware of HR, they feel the role is still restricted to recruitment and training. The question then arises as to where is the Gap? Is the institution not equipping the students with the recent changes in the role of HR or is it industries not having any interest in bridging the gap between education and the organizational requirement? It is high time for people to be made aware of the functions of HR.

In recession the role of HR become still crucial, that is, they have to utilize the employees potential to fullest extent, make strategic moves to improve productivity and efficiency of the organization, redesign training suitable to the market conditions, constantly motivate employees to achieve their challenging targets through the appropriate use of intrinsic or extrinsic motivational techniques.

Based on the survey conducted by GSHR students it was found that more than 70% are aware of what HR is, what are HR functions, What are the qualities required for HR manager, etc. With this awareness they have also shown their interest to understand more about HR, its career prospects, and take HR as the career by choice and not by chance or external reasons (Study conducted by GSHR students, Jan 2009).

We all know that today's students are tomorrow's workforce. If today's students can highlight their high HR awareness and also their keen interest to pursue for HR as a career, then the day is not far when HR professionals will also be looked upon highly as a doctor, engineer or a computer programmer.

Gemba School of HR understands the growing importance of HR and important role that HR will play in shaping the life of the people and equally in developing the organization to the dynamic market. Hence Gemba School of HR focuses more on giving the practical learning to the students so that they can implement theories into action.
