MR. G.D. Sharma
(VP HR – L&T)

G.D. Sharma has a B.Com(Hons) from University of Bombay, and a Masters in PM & IR from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He holds the distinction of winning the gold medal for the Best Outgoing student of the 1979 batch.

Career:
With over 29 years of experience spanning across diversified industry verticals, GDS is regarded as a HR veteran and is one of the well respected names in HR circles across the country.

He is currently the Vice President & Head – Human Resources in Larsen & Toubro Ltd.-ECC Division, the country’s largest Engineering, Contracting & Construction Company, since March 2004. He was earlier the Vice President (Group HR) in the Vedanta Resources Plc., (Sterlite Group); General Manager (Human Resources) in SRA SYSTEMS LTD., a leading Software Development & Export House; Chief General Manager (HR), Sterlite Industries (India) Limited., for their Copper Business; General Manager (Personnel), EID Parry (India) Ltd.,  and as  Sr. Manager (HR) SPIC, where he started his career.

Professional Milestones :

• Lead the HR integration for the M&A of 2 large PSUs and a block of Copper Mines in Australia for a large Metals & Mining Conglomerate.
• Speaking on Contemporary topics in the domain of HR & People Management, conceives and organizes Workshops & Conventions for leading Professional bodies. 
• Conducted Workshops on Change Management, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Leadership Development, Team Building, Creativity in Organisations, Empowerment and Ownership, Supervisory Development, TQM ,HR Management for Line Managers, and other such subjects for large Corporates and the public.
• Associated with a number of Management and Engineering Institutions across the country as Faculty and Academic Council Member. He has also served on the All – India Admissions Panel of the MBA programmes of BIM, Trichy and TAMPI Manipal, and is on the Governing Council of Alliance Business Academy, Bangalore, and TRP School of Management, Chennai.

He is a thoroughly well-networked HR professional and his affiliations are several. To mention a few:

• He was recently conferred the “ITM University Award for Leadership Excellence”, in December 2006, for being perceived as a Role Model, Nurturer of Talent, for a distinguished Track Record and Contribution to the Profession.
• He was on a Rotary Foundation Award Scholarship, visiting USA & Canada in 1985; later the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarships (AOTS) conferred on him a Scholarship Visit to Japan. Besides he has traveled to Australia, Armenia, China Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, UAE, UK and USA.
• He recently made it to the Top 10 Singers in the Solo category in “Padum Office”, the Singing Competition organized by Star-Vijay TV in December 2007.
